SHERWIN BANFIELD

Sherwin Banfield is a Queens, NY-based mixed-media artist whose recent work explores journeys of identity and ancestry. Sherwin's creative practice tends to deconstruct the imaginative and physical journey of identity within his preferred subject matter, the human experience. While exploring the journey of his subject, he would seek to draw a connection between their personal stories and established culture, frequently imposing mythological and imaginative ideas as accessories within his sculptures. Recent projects build upon experimental ideas of incorporating various mixed materials with traditional sculpture, as well as lighting, sound, and solar power, which he refers to as Sustainable Sonic Sculpture.

SHANEQUA BENITEZ

My art is my heart, my pain, my love, my fears, my doubts, my beliefs, my traumas, and my purpose! My creative process stems from my emotions, current events, things I’ve witnessed and things I’ve experienced. “Never Conform” is a way of life for me and I include it in my work often.Working on art is my one true way of being true to who I am and what I stand for, never conforming to the norm.

When I start new work my first question to self is, “how do I feel?”. The process usually starts with some kind of reference materials. I like using books, magazines, tv, current events, and real life experiences. I consider my paintings neo-Impressionism. I reject the traditional standards of composition and design while conveying emotion and meaning rather than reality. Working with oil paint sticks gives me the freedom I need to really bring the details I’m feeling to life on the canvas. The materials I prefer are acrylic paint, oil paint sticks, Textiles and mixed media materials.

NOA BORNSTEIN

Painter and sculptor Noa Bornstein was born in San Rafael, California, and grew up in Los Angeles. She works in pursuit of a shape, a form, a feeling, inspired by human beings and our fellow creatures. Bornstein moved to NY from Europe in 1986 after studying for her 100’long mural Magritte in Los Angeles, toured Belgium, and traveled to Vienna, Austria. Another early mural is the 43’ high by 90’ long, Striving Together for the Harlem Rehabilitation Center in NY in 1987.
Group exhibitions since 2005 to the present include Sculpturesite Gallery in San Francisco; The Walter Randel Gallery in Manhattan; the Rotunda Gallery and Holland Tunnel Gallery in Brooklyn; the Atelier Fine Art Gallery and Toad Hall Gallery at Grounds For Sculpture in New Jersey and the Vital Arts Studios in Queens .
Public sculptures include Live Well! and the life-size bronze, Peace Gorilla, currently installed at Kingsland Wildflowers at Broadway Stages in Brooklyn, the sculpture’s third placement since its installation at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza across from the UN. The sculpture is mounted on a base with the word “friend” in 90 languages.
For many years, Bornstein’s daily life included TNR (trap, neuter, return) and caring for, taming , and homing “street” cats. Their physical presence, individual personalities, and the sense that they have an inner life has continued to inspire works. The multifarious shapes and presences of wild animals also continues to fascinate her, while their world of “survival of the fittest” is hard to bear witness to. So too is the agony of watching from the same screen the way human beings are capable of treating each other—another theme in Bornstein’s oeuvre.
Her public art has been featured in Art in America, Artnews, The Los Angeles Times,
The New York Times and Le Soir (Brussels).

LESLIE GARCIA

I am Leslie Garcia, a first-generation artist from Yonkers, New York, who graduated with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Studio Arts. My creative journey is fueled by a diverse array of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel, charcoal, and clay.

While my academic path initially led me to explore environmental science, my heart remained anchored in the world of art. Seeking balance amidst the rigors of scientific inquiry, I delved into sculpture and drawing classes, finding solace and inspiration in the tactile nature of creation.
As I continue to hone my craft through advanced courses, I am committed to bridging the realms of art and science, seamlessly intertwining creativity with ecological advocacy. NOEL HENNELLY

I make freestanding and wall-mounted artworks of wood, metal, digital prints and steel fasteners. The pieces incorporate hand cut shapes, using traditional carpentry, assemblage and hand painted elements. Other pieces incorporate photographic images both original and collected, drawn from classical sculpture, NASA images and natural forms. The images are manipulated digitally using halftones and drawn elements, then hand painted. Metal supports and found objects feature as both structure and embellishment. There are three categories of interest in my practice: nature and the machine, celestial objects, and votives. I think of each work as a vessel for containing spiritual forces, bolts and washers representing oaths of protection and other elements referencing time, culture and our connection
to the planet.

GWYNETH SCALLY

Gwyneth Scally was born and raised in Washington, D.C, and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her work is deeply informed by the places of her childhood, referencing the Neoclassical architecture of Washington DC, the romantic English countryside where her extended family lives, and the great Western wildernesses where she spent her early adulthood. Born of an Italian-American mother and an English émigré father escaping the post WWII devastation of London, she is interested in how the idea of American wilderness attracts outsiders looking to pinpoint American identity through a romantic lens. The artist’s father was a journalist in the United States Senate, and as a little girl she played in the press gallery above senators in session and developed a fascination with the marble carvings and massive paintings housed in Capitol Hill. As a result, she developed an early interest in the links between art/ architecture and national identity. The artist received her MFA in painting from the University of Arizona and has exhibited internationally, receiving numerous fellowships, scholarships and awards. She has attended several artists’ residencies, including the Process-Space Festival Artists Residency in Balchik, Bulgaria (2008), the Pouch Cove Foundation Artists’ Residency in Newfoundland, Canada (2007), the Red Gate Gallery of Beijing Visual Artists’ Residency in Beijing, China (2004), and workshops at Anderson Ranch, Colorado (2023) and Byrdcliffe Artists Guild (2025).
